Senior Database Engineer

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Informatics Engineering, Information Technology, or an equivalent field.
• Solid practical experience in managing enterprise database environments.
• Proven experience in database upgrades and migrations, backup/restore, and the implementation of Disaster Recovery plans.
• Experience coordinating with remote teams and external service providers.
• Strong understanding of enterprise IT architectures and operational governance.
• Advanced proficiency in MongoDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, Microsoft SQL Server, and Oracle.
• In-depth knowledge of backup, recovery, and disaster recovery best practices.
• Experience in database performance optimization and capacity planning, and familiarity with database monitoring and alerting tools.
• Experience in scripting and automation to increase operational efficiency will be valued.
• Methodical, proactive, and problem-solving oriented profile.
• High sense of responsibility and commitment in production environments.
• Ability to work effectively in multicultural and geographically distributed teams.

• Database Operations and Lifecycle Management
  • Ensure the comprehensive management of database platforms, including Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MariaDB, and MongoDB.
  • Implement, configure, initialize, and decommission database instances in on-premises and hybrid environments.
  • Execute patch and update cycles, in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and internal maintenance windows: Microsoft SQL Server (monthly); PostgreSQL, MariaDB, and MongoDB (quarterly); Oracle (semi-annually)
  • Ensure that database environments remain secure, supported, and in compliance with lifecycle and obsolescence policies.
• Database Migration and Transformation
  • Plan and execute database migrations (version upgrades, platform changes, consolidation, and modernization initiatives).
  • Assess risks, dependencies, and downtime requirements during migrations, ensuring minimal service disruption.
  • Support transformation initiatives, including the replacement of legacy databases, architecture redesign, and assessment of cloud readiness.
• Backup, Recovery, and Disaster Recovery
  • Design, implement, and maintain robust backup and recovery strategies, ensuring data integrity and fulfillment of RPO (Recovery Point Objective) and RTO (Recovery Time Objective) targets.
  • Regularly validate recovery procedures through testing and corresponding supporting documentation.
  • Define, implement, and maintain Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies, including replication, failover testing, and documented recovery procedures.
  • Act as a key element during critical incidents and recovery scenarios, providing technical leadership and root cause analysis of issues.
• Performance, Monitoring, and Reliability
  • Perform proactive monitoring, health checks, and performance optimization of database environments.
  • Analyze capacity trends and anticipate scalability needs.
  • Develop and execute scripts for reporting, automation, and improving operational visibility.
  • Ensure the timely escalation and resolution of critical database-related incidents.
• Governance, Compliance, and Documentation
  • Work in strict compliance with ITIL 4 processes (Incident Management, Change Management, Problem Management, and Service Request Management).
  • Ensure compliance with data residency, access control, and security policies.
  • Maintain documentation that is permanently up to date, including architecture diagrams, operating procedures, backup and disaster recovery plans, and migration plans.
  • Support audits and compliance processes, providing operational evidence and clear reports.
• Obsolescence and Asset Management
  • Identify obsolete database versions and unsupported platforms.
  • Define remediation plans, including upgrades, migrations, or platform decommissioning.
  • Ensure rigorous asset recording and the preparation of reports regarding their respective lifecycles.
