Head of Legal (Portuguese speaker) - iGaming - Porto

Reporting directly to the CEO, the main objectives of the person responsible for the department will be to mitigate legal, ethical, and reputational risk for our client's company (or the group of companies they may create) and to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and commitments in each operated geo-location, including commitments made to third parties (for example, contracts or other agreements) and internally (for example, the Code of Conduct and company policies).

Their main responsibilities will be to manage the legal structure of our client's company, lead client compliance reporting, develop and provide training on key compliance policies, oversee all third-party due diligence, oversee the legal compliance of foreign legal entities, oversee contract management, and provide Ad Hoc legal support, acting as an interface with external advisors.

The Head of Legal, Ethics and Compliance will develop an internal legal support approach that meets current and future needs, ensuring that our client's offices in Portugal and abroad protect the company and that employees have an excellent understanding of the ethical and legal framework in which they operate.

• Obtaining advertising licenses in various foreign markets;

• Management of compliance reporting for clients,

  including fraud and corruption;

• Management of documentation for client and downstream

  subcontractor contracts;

• Management of third-party due diligence, including monitoring the quality of the due diligence conducted by the business;
• Oversight and maintenance of all compliance policies, updating policies to reflect legal or regulatory updates or to reduce compliance risk;
• Support for investigations and management of the whistleblowing register;

• Identification and assessment of relevant risks associated with our

  international operations

• Ad Hoc legal support, managing the request and acquisition of external consultancy as necessary;

• Development of an approach to provide internal legal

  support to meet current and future needs, as well as implementing them;

• Advising colleagues on a wide range of legal and compliance matters
• With the support of the finance team and other cross-functional roles, lead fraud awareness across the company and ensure that internal controls are in place, well understood, and used

• Qualified Lawyer in Portugal;

• Law Degree / Master of Laws or LLM;

• Minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience in a commercial environment;

• Practical knowledge in the iGaming industry (poker, sports betting,

  casino);

• An advantage for the application if you possess any knowledge in the Crypto/Blockchain industry;
• Experience in Administrative, Commercial, Contract, Labor, and Tax Law;
• Experience in Intellectual Property, Compliance, and Data Protection;
• Experience with third-party Due Diligence;
• Working familiarity with government clients is highly desirable, as well as an understanding of the international development sector;
• A constructive and facilitating approach to working with colleagues across the company;

• Experience supporting international businesses in transactions and

  strategic-level matters;

  Excellent communication, written, and verbal skills in Portuguese and English;

  English;

• Excellent organizational skills;

• Strong knowledge of legal compliance, as well as regulatory developments;
• Ability to work under pressure and with tight deadlines;
• Eligibility to travel to various points around the globe, if necessary.
