Skyscanner was founded in 2003 by Gareth Williams, Barry Smith, and Bonamy Grimes as a flight search engine. It grew rapidly to become one of the world's leading travel search platforms, expanding into hotels and car hire. In 2016, it was acquired by the Chinese travel giant Ctrip (now Trip.com Group), but it continues to operate as an independent brand.
