IrsiCaixa is a biomedical research center based in Badalona (Barcelona), Spain, focused on the study of the immune system to address infectious diseases, particularly HIV/AIDS, as well as emerging infections, immunopathology, microbiome, and cancer. It operates as a private non-profit foundation, co-promoted by the "la Caixa" Foundation and the Catalan government, and is located within the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital campus, fostering a unique collaboration between researchers, clinicians, patients, and the community. The institute has over 120 professionals, 11 research groups, and more than 1400 publications, with an international reputation in HIV research and a strong commitment to training young scientists and promoting citizen health.
Company History
IrsiCaixa was constituted in 1995 as a private non-profit foundation, jointly promoted by the "la Caixa" Foundation and the Department of Health of the Generalitat de Catalunya. It was born to respond to HIV/AIDS and has evolved into a reference center in infections and immunity, with 11 research groups and over 100 professionals.
