BarcelonaBeta Brain Research Center

The Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Center (BBRC) is the research center of the Pasqual Maragall Foundation, dedicated to the prevention of Alzheimer's disease and the study of cognitive functions in healthy and pathological aging. Since its founding in 2012, the center has focused on the preclinical phase of Alzheimer's, using the ALFA study cohort of nearly 3,000 cognitively healthy individuals aged 45-75, mostly first-degree descendants of Alzheimer's patients, to identify biomarkers and develop early detection and prevention programs. The BBRC also operates advanced facilities including a 3T MRI, a fluid biomarker laboratory, and clinical trial spaces, and participates in international research consortia.

Located in Barcelona, Spain, the BBRC shares a campus with the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) in the Ciutadella area, near the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB), which hosts over 1,700 researchers from 60 countries. The center holds the European Commission's HRS4R recognition for excellence in human resources for research, reflecting its commitment to supporting scientific talent.
